Music Class

So right now I am in a music class at Isothermal Community College called Music Appreciation. We get to study about composer going all the way back to the 1700's. I've had the most fun in that class. I'm actually a little bit sad because of the fact that we have finals coming up in about 3 more weeks. We've studied composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Chopin and more. It's a great class and it teaches you about how these composers came about being in the music composing business. It's amazing to me how people like Mozart was only 6 years old and was already a child prodigy. You learn about the styles of music and about the way music has changed through out the years. It's a lot of fun to me. We have this assignment called Music Journals. What this is is we've got CD's of music by the composers we study and in our books there are guides to follow those songs with. We write it down on paper and tell about the harmony, rhythm, about the tempo and other things. Then we write about how we feel about that song. It's a very short and simple assignment. We turn them in whenever we have an exam so we only turn in 3 groups of the journals. There are usually anywhere from 9 to 12 of them in a set. Its pretty easy. I enjoy it a lot because we get to listen to some of my favorite classical songs. Moonlight Sonata, Dance of the sugar plum fairy, Beethoven's symphony no. 5 and so on. It's a pretty awesome class to me. See I'm not studying on how to become a pop singer rock start crazy platinum album selling singer. As good as that sounds to some people. I have no interest in that. No I'm studying music in it's entirety. Composing music, about old composers, new composers, how music started, etc. I want to learn as much about music as I possibly can and one day I want to become a music teacher. A college music teacher. To pass on the knowledge that I'm currently seeking to any future music lovers or music teachers. I used to hate school back in high school and middle school. I couldn't ever imagine why anyone would want to become a teacher of any kind. I thought it was stupid. But now that I'm a 22 year old and I am on the path I'm on, I fully understand why people want to become teachers. I want to be a good teacher. If I can inspire anyone to go out and follow their dreams, help be that swing vote they needed to decide to make their career in music, if I can just give them a small push in the right direction or just be able to pass on my knowledge to eager students that's going to be the best reward in the whole world. You see music is my passion. Being a teacher is my goal in life. My career path. Once I've reached it I don't think anyone could ever bring me down. Until next time guys. Hope you enjoyed reading. -Kindra L. Gay
